An overview of the EUROMECH Colloquium 631

On March 18 – 2024 we had the pleasure to organize and host the EUROMECH colloquium 631 “Control of skin friction and convective heat transfer in wall-bounded flows” at the Puerta de Toledo Campus of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. The colloquium aimed at discussing the state of the art of wall-bounded flow control, with utter focus on active control of skin friction and convective heat transfer, addressing the main limitations, opportunities and challenges ahead.

During the three days of the event, we were surrouneded by colleagues from Europe, Asia, and the US in a lively environment, with vibrant discussion and a very fruitful exchange of ideas between the participants.

The full programme and the book of abstracts of the event are available on the colloquium website. The program included 5 keynote talks and 28 contributed presentations, split in 5 thematic sessions. Each session was opened by a corresponding keynote talk, and closed by a round table of discussion. On the last day, a hands-on course on infrared thermography for convective heat transfer measurements was offered.

We kindly acknowledge our sponsors: the European Mechanics society (EUROMECH), the ERC Starting Grants NEXTFLOW (grant n. 949085) and GloWing (grant n. 803082), and Proof of Concept Grant DeLaH (grant n. 101138326), funded from the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program, and finally Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (Spain) and TU Delft (The Netherlands).
